Event narrative

A narrow, slightly-tilted waterspout was observed by the Naval Air Station Key West Boca Chica Field observer. The condensation cloud extended from the cloud base to the surface and a spray ring was confirmed through photos relayed through social media. The waterspout moved toward the southwest around 5 knots.

Wider weather episode

Numerous waterspouts developed in association with developing showers along a regenerative convective cloud line flanking the Lower Florida Keys. The atmosphere consisted of high convective available energy and little if any convective inhibition.
