Event narrative
A narrow waterspout, tilted at a 45-degree angle, was observed by the Naval Air Station Key West Boca Chica Field observer and NWS meteorologists. The condensation cloud extended from the cloud base to the horizon and no spray ring was visible. The waterspout moved toward the southwest around 5 knots. A second waterspout developed nearby but only extended about one fifth the way from cloud base to the horizon.
Wider weather episode
Numerous waterspouts developed in association with developing showers along a regenerative convective cloud line flanking the Lower Florida Keys. The atmosphere consisted of high convective available energy and little if any convective inhibition.
