Lightning struck a tree in front of Clifton Forge Baptist Church, causing it to fall on nearby powerlines.

A line of storms from the Midwest continued east into the Mid-Atlantic within a very unstable atmosphere conducive for damaging winds. Numerous downed trees and powerlines occurred in southwest Virginia from this line of storms.
