Event narrative
Hot temperatures about 3 degrees above normal caused the Moderate Heat Risk category to be reached in eastern Cochise County. Temperatures topped out at 102 degrees at San Simon and the Bisbee-Douglas Airport. The Pima County Medical Examiner determined heat to be a contributing factor in the death of one individual found in the desert 10 miles south of San Simon. A complicating factor in the fatality was drug toxicity.

Strong high pressure continued to create hot temperatures 3 to 5 degrees above normal July 9-13 in parts of southeast Arizona and caused the Moderate Heat Risk category to be reached. A total of 18 heat-related fatalities were reported by the Pima County Medical Examiner.
