On the evening of August 15, 2023, lightning strikes triggered the outbreak of the Happy Camp Complex, with a total of 11 fires. They were located 21 miles west of Yreka, CA. It was burning in timber and heavy slash with several communities, and communications and energy infrastructure threatened. As of 0530 on 10/02, the complex was 21,725 acres, 87 percent contained, destroyed 9 structures, and cost $ 108M.
