A broad area of strong to severe storms impacted the northern periphery of the Upper Mississippi River Valley into Lake Superior during the afternoon hours of July 27th. Storms initially clustered in north-central Wisconsin before weakening as they reached central Wisconsin. The Gilman fire department in western Taylor County reported quarter sized hail with estimated 70 mph wind gusts.
