Event narrative

Cleveland Water Alliance Buoy 45202, about one-mile north of Port Clinton, recorded a peak convective wind gust of 47 mph from a thunderstorm.

Wider weather episode

Lake Erie remained in the warm sector during the evening of June 25th as a low drifted from northeastern WI to northern Lake Michigan. The trailing cold front drifted eastward across IN toward the IN/OH border and a wavy stationary front extended generally southeastward from the low to southern ON and western NY. A pre-cold frontal line of multicell showers and thunderstorms moved generally eastward and generated sporadic gale-force to storm-force peak convective wind gusts along the northern OH shoreline as the storms encountered weak to moderate MUCAPE and effective bulk shear, respectively. This convection eventually weakened considerably and became outflow-dominant significantly as it encountered weaker instability and vertical wind shear, including low-level shear, farther east.
