Event narrative

The NOS tide site MYPF1 at Mayport recorded a peak tide value of 1.93 ft MHHW datum on 9/27 at 9:18 pm. Minor tidal flooding begins at 1.8 ft MHHW. At 8:54 pm on 9/28, the gage measured a peak water level of 1.99 ft MHHW. Moderate tidal flooding begins at 2.3 ft MHHW. At 10:00 am on 9/30, the tide gage reached 2.09 ft MHHW. At 10:15 am on 9/30, a NWS employee reported tidal flood water surrounded buildings and covered parking lots near Hecksher Drive and Browns Creek. At 10:54 am, the tide gage in the Dames Point Bridge on the St. Johns River reached 2.04 ft MHHW. Minor tidal flooding begins at this location at 1.6 ft MHHW. At 11:42 am on 9/30, the tide gage at the Main Street Bridge reached 1.61 ft MHHW. Minor tidal flooding begins at 1.5 ft MHHW at this location.

Coastal hazard potential increased through the week as high astronomical spring tides coincided with a persistent onshore flow pattern. Coastal hazards include increasingly strong and frequent rip currents, beach erosion and minor to moderate tidal flooding along the coast, within the Intracoastal Waterway and St. Johns River basin.
