Flash Flood — Kane, Utah

Event narrative
The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument Big Water Visitor Center reported a flash flood wave along Wahweap Creek that was audible from the town of Big Water until around 8 pm MST. A survey of the creek at the Smokey Mountain Road low-water crossing the following morning revealed the flood wave was approximately 60 to 75 feet wide at some point overnight, which would roughly equate to around 3 to 4 feet of depth at this particular point. This flooding was associated with heavy rain that fell within the far headwaters from approximately 3 pm MST to 5 pm MST.
Wider weather episode
A brief resurgence of the active pattern resulted in scattered strong thunderstorms which resulted in reports of a landspout, hail, and flash flooding.
