Event narrative
A swath of hail was reported by storm chasers from Paducah to approximately three miles southwest of Paducah. Hail ranged in size from quarters to ping pong balls.
Wider weather episode
Widespread severe storms affected portions of the South Plains and Rolling Plains on the afternoon of the fourth supported by unseasonably warm temperatures and strong instability. The instability fueled numerous thunderstorms, some which were severe and produced torrential rainfall near and ahead of a cold front. The most intense storms generated very large hail, as big as three inches in diameter near Reese Center (Lubbock County). A supercell thunderstorm tracked from Cochran County through Crosby County dumping a swath of very large hail across northern Lubbock County.
