A wind gust was measured with a personal weather station 2 miles west of Nags Head in the Roanoke Sound.
Wider weather episode
Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms impacted the inland sounds and rivers as well as the coastal waters north of Core Banks during the afternoon and early evening on July 4th.
