Lightning struck a pavilion at Hamonassett Beach State Park, resulting in one fatality and four injuries.

Numerous severe thunderstorms developed as a weak upper level trough interacted with a hot and humid airmass across the region. Strong downburst winds were characteristic of many of the storms.
