Wider weather episode
Aside from far eastern Kentucky (roughly US-23 and eastward) where showers and storms lingered through much of the morning, the combination of dew points in the mid 70s to lower 80s and temperatures climbing well into the 80s and lower 90s led to an oppressively muggy and highly unstable environment by the midday hours of the 25th. Thunderstorms began to fire off by early afternoon near the I-64 corridor. These storms struggled to organize due to limited shear and lack of focusing mechanism. However, the stronger storms still produced multiple instances of severe wind gust damage, particularly over Morgan, Menifee, Powell and Estill counties. The thunderstorms also produced a considerable amount of lightning, one instance of which caused the death of a 39-year old male in Bath County.
