Event narrative

The month started with Severe(D2) drought south and Moderate(D1) drought north but on August 1st was placed in Extreme(D3) drought. The Cooperative Observer just outside Otero county in Elk reported 3.66 inches of precipitation which was 0.92 inches above normal after 1.56 inches of rain fell August 23-25th.

Wider weather episode

A dry Monsoon Season brought worsening drought conditions into Extreme(D3) drought for extreme eastern Otero County.
