Event narrative

The combination of surface high pressure centered over the eastern Great Lakes and Tropical Storm Idalia lifting northeast then east off the North Carolina outer banks, resulted in very strong northeast winds which caused moderate to major (tidal) coastal flooding over portions of Currituck county adjacent to the Atlantic coast. Duck reached 6.52 feet MLLW at 842 pm on Thursday, August 31.
