The Sherwood Creek Fire in Jasper County burned over 3,700 acres of woods in the Angelina National Forest along with 6 homes. Evacuations of 40 to 50 homes occurred during the fire.

Wider weather episode

Exceptional drought conditions and very high temperatures lead to very dry fuels across the region. Several wildfires ignited in the area by the end of the month with the largest in Jasper County.
