A shortwave trough punched over the northern Great Lakes on 8/3, providing favorable forcing aloft to support scattered thunderstorm development amidst ample instability in place during the afternoon. A cluster of these storm produced wind gusts in excess of 60 mph over Grand Traverse Bay.
