Excessive Heat — Jackson, Louisiana

2023-08-09 to 2023-08-14 · Jackson, Louisiana

Wider weather episode

An upper ridge of high pressure strengthened farther into Oklahoma and Texas through mid August. Meanwhile, a weak surface front remained stationary across portions of Eastern Oklahoma and Central Arkansas, with moisture pooling observed near this front across the Four State Region. Strong sinking motion observed beneath this ridge resulted in compressional warming, with temperatures climbing well into the triple digits across all of North Louisiana. Given the limited mixing of dewpoints observed, oppressive heat was observed with heat indices reaching or exceeding 110 degrees throughout much of mid August.
