Event narrative

The CHP reported a truck accident on Interstate 80 near Blue Canyon that they thought was due to heavy rain and hail. The truck rain into a guard rail and overturned. The public reported nickel size hail from a location 1 mile northeast of Blue Canyon, by Putt Lake.

Wider weather episode

Monsoonal moisture with an unstable airmass caused afternoon mountain thunderstorms to develop over the Sierra. One of these thunderstorms brought hail as large as nickel size.
