Event narrative

A narrow, nearly-vertical waterspout was observed via the National Weather Service Key West webcams about 10 miles south-southeast of Key West. The condensation cloud extended from cloud base to the water surface, and a spray ring was visible for several minutes. The movement was slowly toward the west.

Wider weather episode

Scattered thunderstorms, several containing gale-force wind gusts, occurred mainly over and near the Upper Florida Keys as an inverted trough drifted slowly northward over the Straits of Florida. An isolated waterspout was also observed offshore Key West.
