Event narrative

Three reports of storm total snow of 9 inches or greater were received for the Little Belts. The first report was from SNOTEL equipment at Spur Park, which estimated 9 inches storm total snow. There were two additional public reports, one from Neihart and another from Showdown Montana near Porphyry peak. The storm total reports were 11 and 14 inches respectively.

Wider weather episode

A robust upper trough, embedded waves, and jet energy supported two rounds of snow across North-central and Southwest Montana October 25-27, 2023. The first round, Oct 25 & 26, was more impactful to North-central and Central Montana, while the second round of snow, Oct 26 & 27, was more impactful to Southwest through Central Montana.
