Event narrative
Strong winds developed on the morning of the 31st on the north side of the Alaska Range. Several mesonet stations on the north side of Isabel Pass reported gusts greater than 70 mph during the of the 31st. Texas Condo reported a peak gust of 79 mph. During the eveing hours the winds very gradually diminished as the low weakened.
Wider weather episode
On August 31st, a strong area of low pressure associated with the remnants of Typhoon Damrey moved into Interior Alaska. This caused strong winds to develop along the north side of the Alaska Range.
