Event narrative

In Valley County, all but the northeastern and southwestern corners of Central and Southern Valley County were in D2-Severe drought. The northeastern and southeastern corners of the county were in D1-Moderate. At the end of October the far southwestern corner of Central and Southern Valley County (bordering Fort Peck Lake) improved to D0-Abnormally Dry. The eastern parts of the county improved to D1-Moderate, while the remaining northwestern two thirds of the county continued with D2-Severe drought conditions.

Wider weather episode

After a warm and dry start to October, record snowfall and below average temperatures led to some drought improvement over the area.
