Event narrative

The Liberty Fire started around 1350 PM PST August 23, 2023. About 600 people were evacuated and two homes were reported as damaged or destroyed. The fire was contained around 1815 PST August 23rd. Observed wind speeds at the Salem ASOS, not too far to the north of the fire, were out of the N to NNE between 10-15 mph with gusts as high as 18 mph.

Wider weather episode

A fire broke out in South Salem Oregon during a period of dry warm weather with gusty winds. The fire became known as the Liberty Fire and was contained the same day. About 600 people were evacuated as a result of the fire.
