Event narrative

A few trees were downed by thunderstorm winds in the 2900 block of Old Route 100 Road, including one on Craig Loop near Count Pulaski Drive.

Wider weather episode

A cold front and upper trough slowly approached the area on September 7th, providing a source of lift for the pre-existing instability generated by diurnal heating across southern and central Virginia. This combination created an atmosphere that was conducive for damaging winds gusts. Around 2900 people were left without power in Roanoke, and another 655 were without power in Henry County.
