Event narrative

Quarter sized hail observed near the intersection of State Road 646 and Route 24.

Wider weather episode

A stationary front positioned roughly from New York to the Gulf Coast led to several rounds of showers and thunderstorms in the Piedmont of Virginia. An upper level storm system combined with daytime heating helped increased the coverage of storms during the afternoon and evening hours, while low level convergence along the front focused the thunderstorm activity near the mountains.
