Event narrative

An NWS Anchorage employee reported 0.1 of ice accumulation during the morning of 10/29. Several other locations reported freezing rain/drizzle resulting in very slick road conditions and cars sliding off roadways between Anchorage and Eagle River.

Wider weather episode

A low pressure and frontal system lifting across the Alaska Gulf helped push areas of light precipitation across the greater Anchorage area on the morning of 10/29. Surface temperatures under a low level inversion were initially cold enough for precipitation to mainly fall as freezing rain/drizzle across parts of Anchorage, resulting in slick road conditions and up to 0.1 inches of ice accumulation across town until temperatures warmed above freezing later in the day.
