Event narrative
Minor wind damage occurred across a good portion of the county including some small trees down and a gas station canopy destroyed at 4505 Masonboro Loop Road. A tree fell on a car on Myrtle Grove Road at 1045 PM EST (34.12N, 77.88W).

Tropical Storm Ophelia developed from a non-tropical low off the Southeast U.S. coast and moved northward off the coasts of northeast SC and southeast NC before making landfall at Emerald Isle, NC during the early morning of September 23, 2023. The storm caused minor impacts across southeast NC and northeast SC, mainly in the form of hazardous marine and surf conditions, but also from tropical storm force winds which caused a few downed trees and damage to a gas station canopy in eastern NC. No sustained tropical storm force wind gusts occurred. Rainfall amounts were generally 3-4 inches.
