Event narrative

Social media reported 13.1 inches of snowfall in the Bayshore/Klatt area of Anchorage. Chugach Electric reported 2600 customers without power and commercial power was out at the NWS Office for much of the day. Increased snow load led to further tree damage with drooping tree branches and fallen trees.

Wider weather episode

An upper level low over the Kuskokwim Valley paired with a trough of low pressure extending across the Gulf of Alaska which brought heavy snow to south central and west central Alaska from the Kuskokwim Basin south and east across the Susitna, Matanuska and Anchorage areas.
