Event narrative
Multiple rounds of rain produced flooding throughout the day. A sinkhole near Jones and Flamingo exposed a gas pipeline. Numerous streets were flooded and closed, and many cars were stuck in flood waters around the valley. Heavy rain caved in the roof of a small business and water poured in. One person was found dead in a detention basin.
Wider weather episode
A push of monsoon moisture, which began in August, fueled thunderstorms over the Mojave Desert. Several produced flash flooding, and one produced hail.
