Severe thunderstorm outflow wind gusts up to 55 mph where reported at the Isle of Shoals C-Man station. A local mesonet on Appledore Island also reported a gust of 61 mph.

Wider weather episode

A strong mid-level trough ejected out of New York and pushed from southwest to northeast across New England during the day on September 8th. This feature had ample low level instability to work with as the region was experiencing well above normal temperatures and moisture for early September. All these ingredients came together to bring a line of strong thunderstorms that moved from the south to the north from the NH/MA border up to Casco Bay.
