Event narrative

As Post-Tropical Lee traveled east of the coastal waters, strong northerly offshore winds impacted the coastal waters. The Western Maine Shelf Buoy had a sustained wind of 27kts with a peak gust of 35kts. Two wave sets from the offshore locally generate waves battled the long period swell set from the southeast direction. This led to choppy waters and a peak wave height around 11.6ft.

Hurricane Lee was a category 1 hurricane as it traveled north through the eastern Gulf of Maine early on Saturday, September 16th, before it was reclassified as Post-Tropical Cyclone Lee during the morning hours. The storm center eventually made landfall near Long Island, Nova Scotia on the evening of September 16th and then again in New Brunswick later on Saturday night. Lee brought numerous wind gusts of 35 to 50 mph across the coastal waters along with large long period swells.
