Event narrative

Ongoing abnormally dry conditions, consisting of 15 consecutive weeks of at least severe drought (D2), eased slightly through October. Multiple storms provided above normal rainfall totals, slightly relieving the up to 8 inch rainfall deficit from initial drought issuance on June 27th to the start of October. As a result, extreme drought (D3) abated while severe drought (D2) persisted.

Wider weather episode

Long-standing abnormally dry conditions, comprised of 4 to 10 inches below normal rainfall totals from June through September, eased drought severity across parts of western Wisconsin through October. While above normal monthly rainfall resulted in near normal soil moisture values, a swath of severe drought (D2) persisted while the extreme drought (D3) retreated to far southwest Wisconsin.
