2023-10-01 to 2023-10-31 · Northern Itasca, Minnesota

Event narrative

D2 Severe Drought conditions were in place across the western quarter of northern Itasca County throughout the month with no changes observed. There was some improvement from D1 Moderate Drought to D0 Abnormally Dry across the eastern part of the county, however. Overall, rainfall for the month was within an inch of normal.

Wider weather episode

Drought conditions persisted across northeastern Minnesota during the month of October, but significant improvement was seen. All areas of D3 Extreme Drought were removed during the first week of the month with significant reductions in areas of D2 Severe Drought by the end of the month as well. Rainfall was near to slightly below normal for the month, but was enough along with lingering wet conditions from September to lead to the improvement in October.
