Event narrative

October began with D3 Extreme Drought conditions over much of northern Cass County with D2 Severe Drought elsewhere. The area of D3 Extreme Drought was removed with the update on the 10th, but no additional chances were seen over the remainder of the month. Rainfall was near to slightly below normal over the course of the month.

Wider weather episode

Drought conditions persisted across northeastern Minnesota during the month of October, but significant improvement was seen. All areas of D3 Extreme Drought were removed during the first week of the month with significant reductions in areas of D2 Severe Drought by the end of the month as well. Rainfall was near to slightly below normal for the month, but was enough along with lingering wet conditions from September to lead to the improvement in October.
