Event narrative

The entirety of southern Cass County was covered with D2 Severe Drought throughout the month of October with no changes in status observed over the course of the month. Rainfall for the month was slightly below normal overall.

Wider weather episode

Drought conditions persisted across northeastern Minnesota during the month of October, but significant improvement was seen. All areas of D3 Extreme Drought were removed during the first week of the month with significant reductions in areas of D2 Severe Drought by the end of the month as well. Rainfall was near to slightly below normal for the month, but was enough along with lingering wet conditions from September to lead to the improvement in October.
