2023-10-01 to 2023-10-31 · Southern Aitkin, Minnesota

October began with D2 Severe Drought conditions across the entirety of southern Aitkin County. Most of the D2 Severe Drought conditions were removed with the updates on the 3rd and the 10th, leaving only areas near the Mississippi River in D2 Severe Drought. The remainder of the area was under D1 Moderate Drought conditions. No additional changes were seen over the remainder of the month with rainfall near to slightly below normal.

Wider weather episode

Drought conditions persisted across northeastern Minnesota during the month of October, but significant improvement was seen. All areas of D3 Extreme Drought were removed during the first week of the month with significant reductions in areas of D2 Severe Drought by the end of the month as well. Rainfall was near to slightly below normal for the month, but was enough along with lingering wet conditions from September to lead to the improvement in October.
