A strong surface high over the region associated with a 588-591 mb heat dome over the Southeastern U.S. resulted in widespread very warm to hot temperatures across eastern New York September 5-7, 2023. Albany International Airport set a record high temperature on September 6 reaching 93F. While air temperatures climbed into the lower 90s along the river valleys, heat indices climbed into the mid to upper 90s. This warranted a Heat Advisory of a good portion of the forecast area during this time frame.
