Wider weather episode

An early Fall Winter Storm impacted much of the Billings Forecast Area. The coldest air of the season invaded southern and southeastern Montana and northern Wyoming. At the same time, a strong upper low moved off the Pacific coast and across Idaho. This upper low brought a prolonged period of winter precipitation. Warm air aloft with freezing temperatures at the surface resulted in several hours of freezing drizzle before changing to snow. Many roads saw light ice accumulations creating dangerously slick conditions. The precipitation then transitioned to snow creating snow packed roads over icy conditions.

A 64-year-old Belfry woman was killed the morning of the 25th in a two-vehicle crash on an icy road south of Bridger. The woman was heading south on state Highway 72 at 10:50am when she was struck by a Ford Ranger traveling north. The Ford Ranger, driven by a 40-year-old Belfry man, crossed the center line and hit the other vehicle head-on. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was injured and taken to a Red Lodge hospital.
