The entire zone started the month in Severe(D2) drought and ended the month in Extreme(D3) drought. The Cloudcroft Cooperative Observer recorded 0.51 inches of precipitation which was 1.62 inches below normal.

Wider weather episode

October continued the run of below normal rainfall for southwest New Mexico which kept Severe(D2) to Exceptional(D4) drought conditions going through the month.
