Drought — Douglas, Wisconsin

2023-10-01 to 2023-10-10 · Douglas, Wisconsin

Event narrative

October began with D2 Severe Drought across the southwestern quarter of the county with D1 Moderate Drought over the remainder outside of an area of D0 Abnormally Dry over the Superior area. Rainfall for the month was near to slightly below normal, but rainfall late in September and the early part of the month was enough to lead to the removal of D2 Severe Drought across the county with the update on the 10th. This left a mix of D0 Abnormally Dry across the northern part of the county with D1 Moderate Drought across the remainder of the county.

Wider weather episode

Drought conditions persisted across northwest Wisconsin during the month of October, but significant improvement was seen. All areas of D3 Extreme Drought were removed by the end of the month with significant reductions in areas of D2 Severe Drought by the end of the month as well. Rainfall was near to slightly below normal for the month, but was enough along with lingering wet conditions from September to lead to the improvement in October.
