Event narrative

The Texas Coastal Ocean Observing Network (TCOON) observing platform at Rincon del San Jose (Laguna Madre in Kenedy County) recorded a peak gust of 42.9 knots at 118 PM. Initial gusts reached 38.1 knots at 1 pm CDT and continued at gale force through 242 pm CDT.

Wider weather episode

A line/cluster of strong thunderstorms developed along the Coastal Bend and surged southward along the Lower Texas coast, producing gale-force wind gusts along Laguna Madre and the Lower Texas Gulf waters in spots out toward 60 nautical miles during the afternoon of October 5th. Brief torrential rainfall and frequent lightning accompanied the storms, but there were no known damage reports.
