Event narrative

The C-MAN platform at the South Padre Island Coast Guard station recorded a peak gusts of 34 knots at 336 PM CDT, associated with the passage of a squall line. Gusts remained near 30 knots for another half hour as a mesoscale high pressure cell maintained strong northerly flow.

Wider weather episode

A line/cluster of strong thunderstorms developed along the Coastal Bend and surged southward along the Lower Texas coast, producing gale-force wind gusts along Laguna Madre and the Lower Texas Gulf waters in spots out toward 60 nautical miles during the afternoon of October 5th. Brief torrential rainfall and frequent lightning accompanied the storms, but there were no known damage reports.
