Event narrative

Two waterspouts were spotted next to each other off of Lake Erie Beach.

Wider weather episode

Strong cold air advection behind a secondary passing cold front prompted lake effect off of both lakes. This occurred as cooling temperatures aloft over the much warmer lake waters initiated a lake response. An approaching mid-level trough also helped contribute to the overall lake response. This setup resulted in waterspouts on Lake Erie near Lake Erie beach and near Westfield.
