The wider storm

A strong cold front passed through western South Dakota late in the day, bringing gusty northwesterly winds to much of the area. The strongest winds developed over the Pennington County plains, where sustained winds of 30 to 45 mph and a few gusts of over 60 mph were recorded east of Rapid City.
