California Highway patrol reported an estimated 3 inches of new snow fell near Pine Mountain Club and road closures at the intersection of Mount Pinos Rd. and Cerro Noroeste Rd. and Cuddy Valley Rd. closed due to snow from Mount Pinos to Nordic Base.
Wider weather episode
An upper level low pressure system approached the area on December 29 and crossed central California on December 30. Winds picked up ahead of the system along the West Side Hills and in the Grapevine area of the Tehachapi Mountains on December 29 with several stations reporting gusts between 40 and 50 mph. The system also brought widespread precipitation to the area during the morning and afternoon of December 30 with much of Merced County and the Sierra Nevada north of Kings Canyon picking up between a half and three quarters of an inch of rainfall while a quarter to a half of an inch fell further south in areas north of Kern County with many stations in the south end of the valley and Tehachapi Mountains picking up between a tenth and a quarter of an inch with a tenth of an inch or less in the desert areas.
