What the National Weather Service wrote

Up to four inches of rain fell in a short amount of time causing flash flooding. Numerous roads were flooded including Highway M where it goes over East Fork Big Creek, near County Road 301.

The wider storm

A very unstable airmass with numerous sources of lift culminated in a line of training thunderstorms during the early morning hours of August 4th. This resulted in flash flooding and wind damage in portions of southeast Missouri.

Began near Marquand (37.3743, -90.1534).
