While volunteer observers only reported 1 to 3 inches of snowfall from late on October 30th into the morning of October 31st, the combination of snow and 40 mph wind gusts rapidly worsened road conditions. Slippery to hazardous travel conditions resulted in multiple slide offs reported across the county.
Wider weather episode
An intensifying storm system brought multiple snow bands through southeast Minnesota late on October 30th into October 31st. While overall accumulations were only 1 to 2 inches, the combination with winds gusting above 40 mph and increased snowfall rates resulted in rapidly deteriorating travel conditions. Resultant road conditions quickly became slippery to hazardous across much of southeast Minnesota, especially with snow initially melting and then refreezing on pavement into the early morning hours.
