Winter Weather in Howard, Iowa

Winter Weather October 30, 2023 – October 31, 2023 · Howard, Iowa

What the National Weather Service wrote

While volunteer observers reported only a trace of snowfall from late on October 30th into the morning of October 31st, the combination with 45 mph wind gusts rapidly worsened road conditions. These slippery to hazardous travel conditions resulted in multiple slide offs reported across the county.

The wider storm

An intensifying storm system sagged through northeast Iowa overnight from October 30th through October 31st. While maximum snow accumulations were only 1 to 2 inches for counties along the Minnesota border, the combination of strong winds and intense snow bands quickly resulted in slippery to hazardous road conditions. As the bands of snow quickly passed through the area, visibilities were reduced to less than a mile and resulted in numerous automobile accidents.
