A large low pressure system propelling through the Upper Great Lakes resulted in a multi-day snow event along the West Virginia mountains. Snow began to fall in the state during the early afternoon on December 18th and continued into the morning of December 19th. The heaviest snow fell overnight, with many residents in northeast West Virginia waking up to accumulations of 5 to 7 inches. The highest snowfall measurement was observed by a local cooperative near the Kumbrabow State Forest in southeast Randolph County of 9.5 inches on the morning of December 19th. Remnant mountain snow showers gradually dissipated on the afternoon of the 19th once high pressure began to slide into the area.
